Is IPTV cheaper than Sky TV?

Yes, and not marginally. A full Sky package carrying Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Cinema comes to about £110 a month, or £1,320 across a year. Twelve months of GetTV is £49.99, or £4.17 a month. That household recovers roughly £1,270. Even the basic Sky bundle with no sport at all, at £28 a month, costs six times what an annual IPTV subscription does.

What does IPTV actually cost per month here?

The honest UK band is £4 to £15 a month depending on commitment. Our single month is £14.99, six months divides to £6.17 a month, and twelve months to £4.17. Anything advertised beneath about £3 a month, and anything using the word lifetime, is a warning rather than a bargain.

Can Sky Broadband stay if Sky TV goes?

Yes. Sky Broadband and Sky TV are separate contracts and ending one does not end the other. What you will lose is any discount that was conditional on taking both, so establish what the broadband reverts to before you ring. Plenty of people keep the broadband, drop the television, and are still comfortably ahead.

What do you actually give up by switching?

Three things, and all three are real. Sky Q local recording and series link disappear. The Ofcom-backed escalation route disappears, because IPTV providers sit outside that scheme entirely. And you give up the picture consistency that comes from one company owning the delivery network end to end. In exchange you get a far larger catalogue, no contract, and roughly a thousand pounds a year back.

Does switching mean buying new hardware?

Almost certainly not, because it runs on essentially anything with a screen and a network connection: a stick, an Android box, a Samsung or LG panel, an Apple TV, a handset, a tablet, a laptop. Own one of those and you are ready this evening. If genuinely not, a £40 Fire Stick 4K is the cheapest way in.

Is moving from Sky to IPTV legal in the UK?

The technology is lawful and unremarkable. BT TV, Now and Sky Stream are all built on it. The question that decides legality is narrower: does whoever supplies the channels hold distribution rights for them. Our explainer on IPTV legality works through where that line sits and what to check first.

How long does setup take once Sky is cancelled?

About fifteen minutes. Install a player app, enter the login we send, and let the channel list and guide populate. Our installation guides cover Fire Stick, smart TV, Apple TV, MAG, Formuler and mobile individually rather than generically.
