MAG boxes are the original dedicated IPTV hardware in the UK: no Android layer, no sideloading, no app store, just purpose-built middleware that starts almost instantly. What follows is the four routes we support across every MAG 250, 254, 256, 322, 324, 349, 420, 424, 522 and 524, from the sixty-second auto-provisioned Stalker Portal, which is our default, through manual Portal 1 entry to modern Ministra TV. Every MAG box ever sold, from the ageing 250 to the flagship 524, can be running IPTV within five minutes, because the middleware is already inside the firmware. There is nothing to install. Either you send us the MAC address and we push a playlist to the box, or you paste a portal URL in yourself. Before you start: use Ethernet

MAG boxes are notorious for weak built-in Wi-Fi. The antenna is acceptable for SD, stutters on HD and collapses entirely on 4K. Every route below assumes a cable. Where one genuinely will not reach, sit within three metres of the router and expect the occasional stall. This single change closes more MAG tickets than every other fix other tweak on our iptv service.

The quickest MAG setup there is. Send us the MAC address printed on the sticker under the box, in the form 00:1A:79:XX:XX:XX. We register it against your iptv uk trial on our Stalker server, and the box then boots into a fully populated UK line-up: sport, films, series, guide, catch-up, all of it. Nothing gets typed and nothing can be mistyped, which is why this is the default we point every new GetTV MAG customer at.

Step-by-step

    Plug in and reach the home menu

    HDMI into the television, Ethernet into the box, which we would insist on over wifi for a MAG, then power on. Wait for the Home Menu to appear.

  2. 2

    Read the MAC off the sticker

    Turn the box over. The sticker on the base carries a MAC address in the form 00:1A:79:XX:XX:XX. Photograph it, because that string is what identifies your box on our iptv service.

  3. 3

    Send it over with your order name

    WhatsApp the MAC and the name the iptv trial was bought under. We whitelist it on our Stalker portal and push your playlist, usually within about ten minutes.

    Reboot the portal

    Menu on the MAG remote, then Reboot Portal. Or pull the power for ten seconds. Nothing needs changing in the settings, because the work has already happened on our side.

    Start watching

    The channel grid appears grouped by category: UK, entertainment, sport, films, series, kids, international. The number keys on the remote jump straight to a channel.

  • This route requires no configuration from you at all. If menus are not your idea of an evening, this is the only method on this page you need to read.

The classic route, and the one every provider documents. You enter the Stalker portal URL into Portal 1 yourself, save, and reboot the portal. Worth using where you want the box configured before contacting us, and handy for a same-day iptv uk trial when the portal URL is already sitting in your welcome email.

Step-by-step

    Open System settings, then Servers

    From the MAG home menu press Settings, then System settings, then Servers, then Portals.

    Name Portal 1

    Set Portal 1 name to something you will recognise later. Leave Portal 2 empty for now, since it can hold an M3U later on.

  3. 3

    Paste the portal URL

    Set Portal 1 URL to exactly what we sent in your welcome message. The usual shape is http://server.gettv.tv:8080/stalker_portal/c/. It is case-sensitive, and one wrong character breaks the whole thing.

  4. 4

    Save, then exit

    Press OK to save, then EXIT twice to get back to the home menu. The box offers to reboot the portal. Accept.

  5. 5

    Check the channels load

    The portal reloads and the categories appear. If it hangs on Loading portal, the MAC has almost certainly not been whitelisted on our side yet, so send it to us on WhatsApp.

Tip

  • Portal URLs are case-sensitive, and on some MAG firmware the capital C at the end of /stalker_portal/c/ genuinely matters.

A number of MAG models, the 4xx and 5xx generations especially, carry a built-in IPTV app that reads M3U playlists straight off, bypassing the Stalker portal entirely. We treat this as the backup route: when an ISP blocks the Stalker portal, the M3U path almost always still gets through. Same iptv subscription behind it either way.

Step-by-step

    Ask us for the M3U URL

    WhatsApp and request the M3U version of your playlist. We generate a personal URL tied to your subscription and send it back within minutes.

  2. 2

    Open the built-in IPTV app

    On the MAG home menu, find the IPTV tile (IPTV Channels on older firmware) and open it.

    Add a playlist source

    Menu, Settings, Playlists, Add. Choose External playlist (URL) and give it a name.

  4. 4

    Paste the M3U URL

    Enter the full URL we sent. It normally begins http:// and ends .m3u or .m3u8. Save.

    Reload and browse

    Back on the IPTV app main screen, the full channel list loads. Categories are taken from the group-title tags inside the M3U itself.

Tip

  • If the built-in app cannot reach your M3U, try putting it in the Portal 2 slot instead, under Settings, System settings, Servers, Portals. Some MAG firmware routes M3U through Portal 2 far more reliably.

Ministra TV is the modern successor to classic Stalker middleware: better guide rendering, catch-up going back seven days, and a noticeably more responsive interface on recent boxes. Every GetTV iptv subscription works with Ministra as-is. You simply enter the Ministra portal URL rather than the classic Stalker one. On a MAG 522 or 524 it is the best experience available.

    Ask us for the Ministra URL

    WhatsApp and request the Ministra portal URL for your account. It resembles the Stalker one but ends /stalker_portal/c/ministra.php or /ministra/c/ depending on the server.

    Open Portals settings

    MAG, Settings, System settings, Servers, Portals.

  3. 3

    Replace Portal 1

    Overwrite the existing Portal 1 URL with the Ministra one and save.

  4. 4

    Reboot the portal

    Return to the home menu and wait for the reload. Ministra comes up with a different sidebar layout and a considerably richer guide.

  5. 5

    Use catch-up

    Inside Ministra, press MENU on any channel carrying a catch-up icon, usually a rewind arrow. Supported UK channels go back seven days.

Tip

  • Ministra is much less tolerant of a slow connection than Stalker is. A portal that loads slowly is nearly always a wifi problem, and moving to Ethernet fixes it on the spot.

Which MAG setup method should I actually use?

Shortest possible answer: send us the MAC and take the auto-provisioned Stalker Portal. It is the fastest and most reliable route and it is what most GetTV MAG customers use. Move up to Ministra TV only if you own a 522 or 524 and want the modern guide with catch-up. The M3U route is worth knowing about as a fallback if your ISP ever blocks the Stalker portal.

MAG 250 / 254 / 256 owners

These older boxes support classic Stalker only, with no Ministra and no M3U app. Use the auto-provisioned route: send the MAC, reboot the portal, done. Skip 4K entirely, since they cap out at 1080p and struggle with high bitrates on our iptv subscriptions.

MAG 322 / 324 / 349 owners

The middle generation handles Stalker, Ministra and M3U equally well, which makes it the sweet spot for a UK iptv service: cheap secondhand, still responsive, and entirely adequate for 1080p sport and film on any iptv subscription.

MAG 420 / 424 / 522 / 524 owners

The flagships, with 4K HEVC hardware decoding. Use Ministra TV for the full modern interface and catch-up, then hard-wire the Ethernet. The gap over wifi night and day on 4K UK sport channels included with our iptv subscriptions.

Frequently asked questions

Which MAG boxes does this guide work with in 2026?

Every MAG we sell a subscription for: 250, 254, 256, 322, 324, 349, 420, 424, 522 and 524. All four methods above work on 322 and newer; the 250, 254 and 256 are Stalker-only. Every GetTV iptv trial customer on a MAG takes one of these four routes on day one.

Do I have to send you my MAC address?

Yes. A MAG identifies itself to our Stalker server by MAC address, so nothing at all works until that MAC is whitelisted here. It is a thirty-second WhatsApp message with the string printed on the sticker under the box. Every UK provider supporting MAG hardware does the same thing for every iptv service they run.

Ethernet or Wi-Fi on MAG?

Ethernet, wherever it is physically possible. MAG boxes are notorious for weak internal wifi antennas that struggle with HD bitrates and give up entirely on 4K. If wifi is unavoidable, sit within about three metres of the router and accept the occasional stall. Wifi on a MAG has generated more buffering tickets than every other cause on our iptv subscriptions put together.

Stalker or Ministra: what is the actual difference?

Stalker is the classic middleware, standard since the MAG 250, and it is reliable and unremarkable in the good sense. Ministra is the successor from the same company, Infomir, with a better guide, catch-up going back seven days, and a more responsive interface. Both accept the same GetTV iptv uk trial credentials on our side, and only the portal URL differs. On a 522 or 524 we default to Ministra.

Does the same subscription work on a MAG and other devices?

Yes. One GetTV subscription covers a MAG, a Fire Stick, an Apple TV, a smart TV, a phone and a tablet. The MAG uses MAC whitelisting; everything else uses the Xtream Codes username, password and server URL from the same welcome message. Simultaneous playback is the only cap. My MAG says "Loading portal" forever. What do I do?

Three checks, in this order. Does the MAC you sent match the sticker exactly, including case, which older MAG firmware cares about? Is the Portal 1 URL free of leading or trailing spaces? And are you on Ethernet rather than wifi? If all three are right, send us the MAC and we will ping the box from our end. Every GetTV subscription includes MAG setup help at no charge.

How long does the MAG IPTV setup take?

Under five minutes on the auto-provisioned route: send the MAC, we whitelist it, you reboot the portal. Nearer ten if you type the portal URL manually, because entering a URL on a MAG remote is slower than anyone expects.
